Good Morning From Peep's Pond

We have arrived at Peep's Pond once again, safe and sound, where only the rustling of the leaves, and singing of the birds are the loudest sound we hear. The weather is a little cool ( 9 C) and there is quite a bit of moisture in the air. We haven't been out to the Golf Course yet but maybe later this afternoon if the rain holds off.
I'm going to leave it here for now as I must go and sketch something, or get started reading a book, or something. Take care and I'll see you when I'm older.

Tuesday June 20th

Hi, there I bet you have wondered if this old Caller has fallen off the stage, or just got lost in a normal life's comings and goings, which is of course true. Playing a bunch of golf between rain showers, getting ready to go to Peeps Pond and trying to get in a few sketches here & there when I get the chance. We hope the summer is going well with you, and that you are enjoying every second of it. Since I can't show you a video of my golf games, and you likely don't want to hear me sing, all I can offer you is a few of my latest sketches. You don't have to look at them if you don't want to I just put them up here for something to do. I'll likely write again when I get to Peeps Pond so until then enjoy the summer.

I'll see you when I'm older.

May 29, 2017
Good afternoon to you on this wet Monday, which is May 29th. and nine days after we celebrated our 50th. Anniversary. We hope this Blog finds you all well healthwise and active with everything else in your life. In keeping with our quiet traditional way and my theory of "if it's not broken, don't fix it or mess with it" was our anniversary. However Judy & I take this opportunity to say "Thank You" to all our friends who sent cards, letters, poems, phone messages, on Facebook-Messages, Messenger-Messages, and Twitter-Messages and yes, even hand delivered Messages. All very kind and all greatly appreciated.

You might ask what we've been up to since Square Dancing ended for the season? Some of our time has been spent at Lake Dore, since the ground is drying up and the water level has receded a little. Some has been spent playing 12 Games of golf, once the courses have started to dry out, Judy has been knitting or baking, whilst I work away at my sketching, when not cutting grass. I guess I could say nothing much changes in our life style or there's not much to discover on the Discovery channel after fifty years.

That's about all I have to write for now. Here are a few of my recent sketches you can have a chuckle over, and No! I am not planning to go sailing, EVER.
Take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you when I am older. Thanks again for all the Cards & Letters.

Wow! How wet can it get? Rain, rain and more rain, too wet to play golf, too wet to hit golf balls, too wet to cut grass, too wet for BBQing. Good day to stay inside and look out the window at all the puddles, saturated lawns, flowing ditches, and when that becomes boring in 20 seconds, pick up a pencil and paper and sketch yourself a picture.

I just went for a little drive along by the mighty Ottawa and I can tell you, that's the highest I've ever seen it, almost up to the soccer fields at the bottom of Larch, and over the road at Trim Road going to Petrie Island, and I think Petrie Island is completely under water.

There is not much we can do but wait for the rain to stop and the flood to subside and the sun returns along with a breeze to help dry things out. We hope you are high and dry with no flooding issues. Take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you when I'm older.

Monday, May 1, 2017

Good day to stay indoors if you can, not a day to play golf if you are in this area. The forecast is rain all the day and into tomorrow, it is cool at 6C but might sore to 10 C later in the day. Seeing as I can't work outside or play golf I guess I'll get out my pencils and sketch or draw or whatever they call what I do, or I could go to Golf Town and dream, or I could dream and then go to Golf Town.

It's easy to see I have very little to do on a rainy day, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you when I'm older.

Sunday, April 30, 2017

Good morning to you and to the very last day of April, with a cool temperature of 3 C accompanied with a North East wind of 15 kph. and a 80% chance of rain. Tomorrow it will be May, with a little rain and more sun, we hope for some warmth but not too hot, a breeze but not a hurricane, moist but not too wet and not too dry golf courses and lots and lots of golf.

The Mississippi Squares celebrated their 30th. Anniversary last night with a dance, which we attended and which was a rare and enjoyable occasion for Judy & I to be together on the dance floor with many of you. This occasion started out by being picked up at our house and driven to the Ashton Pub for a excellent meal, in the company with some of The Village Squares, then on to the Dance. This was a fun filled and most enjoyable time!  Congratulations to the Mississippi Squares and a huge thank you to Brian Crawford and Jean Clingin for Calling & Cueing a great dance.

At this time I'm not sure what today will bring, hopefully a little golf or at least a bucket of balls at the driving range and that's all I have to write about this morning, so have a wonderful day take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you when we are all a little older.

Thursday, April 27, 2017

Good morning to you and to day one of our vacation away from Calling Square Dances. This is looking like a very nice day with the temperature climbing to about +25 C and sunny by this afternoon.

Last night The Village Squares held their end of season dinner & dance with most members in attendance along with some past members no longer dancing because of health reasons, it was great to see everyone again. Things were a little tense in the early going as my sound system kept cutting out, however, after hooking up the spare it wasn't very long until we found a loose connection at the speaker was the the culprit and that was resolved very quickly. Now that Adams Aces, The Cookie Club and The Village Squares have ended for the season, we hope all the dancers have a wonderful summer, doing just what you love to do other than Square Dance and we'll see you back on the dance floor in September.
Don't forget Saturday night is The Mississippi Squares 30th Anniversary Dance with Brian Crawford Calling and Jean Clingin Cueing the Rounds. We will see you there.

To the folks who have told me lately that they missed seeing this old Blog now that I haven't been writing daily, I will try to do better and write a little more frequently. One dancer told me that he could remember when I started Calling about 43 years ago, and several said they missed my sketches, so I will try to get some of them posted as well. However, I will not write every day as there are many golf days ahead, which I must not let slip by without being on the links.
Have a great day, take care of yourself and each other and I'll write again when I'm older, at least older than the picture below.

Des this one is for you.

Wow! We have made it through one tough old winter, with our fair share of cold, flu, and whatever  other ailments we have had, to get us to today, the last Cookie Club Sunday for this Square Dance season. This means summer, golfing, camping and traveling are not too many days away. The program for the Cookie Club is to just Dance through all the Calls on the Advanced list and maybe a little emphases on Crossover Circulate which requires some thought when Called from Lines Facing In or Out, or 3&1 Lines.

Tomorrow evening is also the final Adams Aces Dance of the season, with ice cream sundaes at the end of the evening. We hope to see everyone there.

Wednesday evening is the End of Season Party for the Village Squares

If for some reason we don't get to see you at one of these events, we hope you have a wonderful summer and we'll see you back on the Dance Floor in September.

Sunday, April 9, 2017

Wow! It's difficult to believe the weatherman when he states the temperature will climb to +15 C this afternoon, but we hope he is correct.

Today is the second last Cookie Club dance of the season and we hope to see you there, the Program for today will be straight up Advanced with a couple of the special Calls we've been working on since January. Those being "Half Tag The Windmill", "Mix The Windmill" "Split Circulate 1 & 1/2", "Swing Thru 1 & 1/4", "Scoot Back 1 & 1/2", "Split Recycle 1 & 1/2", & "2/3 Acey Deucey". Maybe, just maybe, and just saying, if there are enough C1 Dancers out, we could do a little C1 Extemporaneous Sight for a few minutes after 4:00 PM.

That's all I have just now, so, enjoy the sun and we'll see you at the Cookie Club.

Sunday, March 26, 2017

Yes, here we are at the last Cookie Club Sunday in March, and guess what the weatherman is calling for freezing rain later this afternoon. However, the probability of that is only 40% at 2:00 PM and still at 40% at 5:00PM then 60% at 6:00PM and 80% at 8:00PM this evening. Based on that probability the Cookie Club will be open this afternoon for Advanced Dancing.

The Program this afternoon will of course be all the Advanced Calls we can cover, plus reviews on "Mix The Windmill", "Follow Your Neighbour The Windmill", "Half Tag The Windmill", "Split Recycle", "Reverse Recycle", "Split Circulate 1&1/2", "Swing Thru 1&1/4", "Lock It" from Point to Point Diamonds, "3x2 Acey Deucey", and maybe "Relay The Shadow" and a little look at "Circle By 1/2 & 3/4" we will see how everything progresses.

Based on the weather forecast for this afternoon, it will be your decision whether you want to drive or not. We only have to drive to the end of the street, you must drive much further, so take care and we hope to see you on the dance floor.

Sunday, March 19, 2017

Good Sunday morning to you and yes, it's another Cookie Club day. It is rather cool this morning at -13 C but should get to about + 4 C by this afternoon, and warmer in the Hobbs Centre as we blast through the Calls on the Advanced List.

Besides trying to get through all the Advanced Calls we will try to work in some "Split Circulates 1 & 1/2", "Disconnected Wave and Two Faced Line Calls", "Swing Thru 1 & 1/4", of course some "All Four Couples & All 8 Calls", "Reverse Recycle & Split Recycle", "Mix The Windmill" & "Half Tag The Windmill", "Follow Your Neighbour The Windmill" and if there is time and everyone is keen maybe "Relay The Shadow" and if there are enough C1 Dancers maybe a few sequences after 4 PM. I think this will be a very full program provided I don't loose my mind between now and then.

Tomorrow evening is Adams Aces where we will work on the A1 section of the Advanced List.

That's all for today folks, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

Sunday, March 12, 2017

Good Sunday morning,if you have just risen then let me inform you it is very cold outside at -19 C and feeling like -24 C with the breeze out of the West. Did you put your clocks ahead yet?

Today is of course Cookie Club Sunday and seeing how you will not be working in your garden, raking the lawn or sitting on the beach, you might consider dancing the Calls on the Advanced Callerlab list at the Cookie Club. I didn't see too much on the program for today, except some "Split Circulate 1 & 1/2", "Scoot Back 1 & 1/2", "Swing Thru 1 & 1/4", "Split Recycle", "3x2 Acey Deucey", and "Anything The Windmill". If you have something you would like to look at then let me know and I'll try to work it in.

This is March break for the school system so Adams Aces will not be dancing tomorrow evening.

That's about all I have for today, so stay warm, take care of yourself and each other and we'll see you at the Cookie Club or somewhere on the Dance Floor.

Friday, March 10, 2017

Good cool Friday morning with a temperature of -9 C here in Orleans, with a bit of a breeze out of the North at 9 KM/H making it feel like -14 C.

Dancers don't forget to put your clocks forward one hour on Saturday night, as we start into Daylight Saving Time and because you would not want to be late for The Cookie Club on Sunday afternoon.

The March Break for our school system starts Monday and of course all schools in the Ottawa area will be closed, therefore, we will not be at Adams Aces on Monday March 13th.

I will post the Program for The Cookie Club tomorrow, Saturday morning.

That's all for today gang, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

Monday, March 6, 2017

Good Monday morning to you, and yes it's still quite cool here in the Capital of our Nation. The temperature now is -11 C but should warm up a little by this afternoon and we could get some freezing rain, yuck!

Provided we don't get too much freezing rain today and we don't have to cancel Adams Aces tonight the Program will be of course to cover as many of the A1 and Plus Calls I can, in six tips and if the Dancing is good, we will take a look at "Scoot & Weave" and "Pass & Roll" just to make it a little more exciting.

We hope everyone who went to Burlington VT for the Maple Festival had a great weekend and a safe journey home.

That's about all for today, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

Monday, February 27, 2017

Good almost noon but not quite, no I didn't sleep in and yes I am feeling a great better than I have over the past month.

At long last it's Adams Aces Day, and seeing that it has been a very long lay off with PD days, Family Day, Sick Caller Day, and goodness knows what other days were involved, tonight we will get too it for sure. I hope we can cover all the A1 Calls from the Standard Application Formations and work in most of the Calls on the Plus List, which may have also slipped off into the grey zone of our minds. If time allows and I don't frazzle your minds, we'll look at a mystery Call.

We sure hope everyone is well health-wise, or at least on the road to being well, as we start to enter the almost Spring weather pattern ( almost is the key word)
Take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

Sunday, February 26, 2017

Wow, it's Sunday once again, a little cooler this morning than yesterday but much dryer, which is good. I think it should be good driving to get to the Cookie Club this afternoon, where we can enjoy the following program. Today's program will cover all or as many Advanced Calls I can cover with emphases on the following Call Variations. "Motivate","Scoot Back 1 & 1/2", "Scoot Back 1/2 & 1", "Split Circulate 1&1/2 (Column)", "Follow Your Neighbour The Windmill (Right)", "Mix The Windmill (Right) or (Left)", " Split Recycle from a Column", "Remake The Thar", "Reverse Remake The Setup", "My Surprise". I hope this makes for an interesting afternoon.
Of course tomorrow we are back at Adams Aces for some A1 Dancing and cover some of the variations we have been working on.
That's about all I have for this morning, so take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

Sunday, February 19, 2017

Good morning to you on this very mild Feb. 19th with a temperature now of -5C but heading for +7C a little later.

It has been quite a while since the Cookie Club danced, the last time being January 22, and that was 4 Sundays ago. Today's program will be straight up Advanced with a little work on "Circulate 1 & 1/2", "Scoot Back 1 & 1/2", "Mix The Windmill", "Follow Your Neighbour The Windmill", and "Reverse Recycle". These are not new, we just may not recall them quite as quickly as some other Calls. I hope to get most of this covered, but who knows for sure.

Take care of yourself and each other and enjoy the mild weather while it lasts. I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

Friday, February 17, 2017

Good morning, to you on this Friday February 17th. with a temperature of -7 but feels like -14 when we add in the 19 km/h NW wind. Warmer days are coming, maybe tomorrow!

I am feeling really good again this morning, which I hope continues, maybe this afternoon I spend some time on the talking side of the microphone, and try to get my breathing back in phase or phrase and out of the haze.
Don't forget Sunday is The Cookie Club and Monday is Family Day when the schools are closed.
Okay that's it for now, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

Thursday, February 16, 2017

Yes it's actually me, actually alive, and actually feeling quite a lot better than two weeks ago and before twenty goes of some Antibiotic pills, lots of lemons and water, and No (Zero) Square Dance Calling. Thank you all for your well wishes I think they actually really helped me along.

The Plan as of now is that we will return to the Cookie Club Sunday Feb.19th. so if you read this, please pass it on, I will post the Program either Saturday evening or Sunday morning. The weather forecast for Sunday is +6 C. but somehow I don't think we have to worry about cutting the grass just yet.

Monday Feb. 20th is Family Day so all the schools are closed and therefore no Adams' Aces.

Take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you at the Cookie Club.

Sunday, February 12, 2017

SUNDAY Feb. 12

Wow! We sure made to right decision to cancel the Cookie Club today, not only because of my Cold but the weather as well, which is just awful today and we are so happy none of the Cookie Club Dancers are out driving in it. I can't help but think about Brian Crawford driving back home, following Calling a dance in Cornwall.

We have also decided to cancel Adams Aces tomorrow evening Feb. 13th. just to give myself a couple more days of recuperation. Then Feb.20th is Family Day and the schools are closed, So we will resume our normal nights Feb.27.

Please take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

Saturday, February 11, 2017

Good morning Square Dancers, as many of you may already know I am on my 4th go of antibiotics, which are supposed to help with the elimination of this ailment I have been trying to shake for the last three or four months, while continuing our regular scheduled of events. So far these antibiotics have not been successful, and I still continue to bark and cough to a point to where my stomach turns. All our friends tell me I need rest, so for once in my life I will do just that. Therefore tomorrow afternoon's Cookie Club is canceled as of now. I am sorry to have to do this, firstly, because it doesn't fit my style to cancel, but this time I will lay my style aside, and secondly because I don't feel I can give you a first rate program while in this condition.

At this time I will see how I feel Sunday before I decide whether or not to cancel Adams Aces for Monday evening so keep an eye on the Blog.

Thank you for understanding my situation and if I don't take this rest away from microphone, I don't want to think what the next step might be.
