COOKIE CLUB SUNDAY

Good snowy Sunday morning, which is not all that nice outside at this time. The temperature here is -1 C and it is snowing a little now, I'm not sure of the driving conditions out there but I expect the roads are not in bad shape. It will warm up a little during the day, so we will go ahead with the Cookie Club A2 this afternoon. if you want to attend then I'll leave the driving up to your discretion.
Today we will dance straight ahead Advanced with out any "off the wall crazy ideas", except maybe a little Left Handed material, and try to cover all the Advanced Calls, along with most of the acceptable dance positions we have covered so far.
If you are planning to attend then please drive safely as there was some freezing rain last night before the snow and that could mean it might be slippery in places.
That's it for now, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the dance floor.

COOKIE CLUB SUNDAY

Good Sunday morning, on this November 12th which is looking like a half decent kind of day. The temperature now at 7:30 am is -3 C and will heat up to about +3 C by sometime this afternoon.

The Cookie Club program is the same as the last one, trying to get through all the Calls or as many as possible of the Calls on the Callerlab Advance 1 & 2 List. A look at Split / Box Counter Rotate 1 & 1/2 , and maybe, Split / Box Counter Rotate a Half and 1/2, could prove interesting.  Maybe a 3/4 Zoom wouldn't be too much to throw in. The never ending construction of the new ramp is still going on and that impacts the parking area, so you might end up parking on the street.

That's all I have for today so take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you at the Cookie Club.

ADAMS' ACES DAY

Good Monday morning, after a very wet Sunday, the ground around here is totally saturated with water and so is everything else. Today is going to be sunny and dry with a wind of about 18 / 20 km/h, the temperature now is 13 C but, it will drop gradually until this evening when it will be about 0 C.

The program for Aces tonight is to Call & Dance all, or most of, the A1 Callerlab list, with a review on "Cast A Shadow" starting from a Promenade Formation, fix what incorrect information I gave you last week on "3/4 Zoom", and review "Chain Reaction" starting from a Left Hand Quarter Tag Formation. If you have a Call, you would like a review on, please let me know and I'll work through it.

Okay, that's about all I can tell you this morning, so take care of yourself and each other, and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

RAINY COOKIE CLUB SUNDAY

Good rainy-day morning to you. This morning arrives with a temperature of 8 degrees C and a slight wind of 7 km/h out of the North East.

What is on the menu for the Cookie Club this afternoon? you ask. You already know we'll cover as many Advanced Calls as possible, and today I want to work "Box & Split Counter Rotate 1 & 1/2", " Motivate Variations" such as In Roll, Out Roll, & Split. and a review of "Chain Reaction" starting from a Left Hand Quarter Tag. and "Cycle & Wheel". This should fill the afternoon program.

Don't forget tomorrow evening is Adams Aces with another evening of "A1" Dancing.

That's all I have for this rainy morning, please drive carefully when you are returning from Peterborough. Take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

THE COOKIE CLUB

Good Saturday morning to you, it is a little cool outside this morning with a temperature of 6 C but it should warm up to about 19 C by this afternoon. Tomorrow we are looking at 10 degrees Celsius and rain, rain, therefore you will not be working outside so, you might as well come out to the Roy G. Hobbs Community Centre and Dance A2 at The Cookie Club. That's where we'll be, I know some will be in Peterborough but if you aren't  then this is for you.

Don't forget we are back at Queen Elizabeth School on Monday evening for Adams Aces, we hope to see you all there.

That's about all I have for today, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

COOKIE CLUB

Good morning, on a cool Friday October 27th, only 6 degrees C now but will get up to around 12 degrees by this afternoon.

Normally we do not have the Cookie on the 5th Sunday, but due to loosing Thanksgiving Sunday we decided to hold it on October 29th. We didn't realize Don was holding a dance in Peterborough on the 29th. However, if you are not going to Peterborough and want to dance A2 we will be at the Roy G. Hobbs Community Centre from 2 - 4 Sunday. We will cover as many A2 Calls as possible and if you have some Call you would like a workshop on, then just let me know, and I will do that for you.

Till I see you, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

THE BOSE L1 COMPACT

I know I don't normally write a blog on Thursday but here goes. The BOSE L1 COMPACT system is for sure the best sound I have ever heard in a Square Dance Hall. Let me say that after using an old Newcome 75, and various Hilton Amps, 75, 100, MA150 and a Stack type or Phantom type speaker system, for in my case for about 44 years, the Bose L1 Compact is without a doubt the best I've ever heard. It takes a little getting use to at first, but man, it sure makes a huge difference to the sound quality and clarity without harsh spots such as are produced by a yak or stacked speaker system. Last night was the third time I have used it and I'm sure I have everything under control now, just so easy, simple and light weight to transport, setup and use.
The only drawback for Callers with decent sound systems already, is the price, but if you were to add up a Hilton MA150 + Yak-Stak, + Shure Beta 58 wireless mic + speaker stand, you would find the L1 to be comparable, if not cheaper. If you are thinking about upgrading your calling equipment, get the Bose L1 Compact, the best money you'll spend on square dance calling. All I have to say is, thank you Caller Bob Summers for letting me try your L1, one nibble and I was hooked.
That's it for today take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the dance floor.

ADAMS ACES DAY

Good morning and it looks like another beautiful day coming our way.
Yes, tonight is Adams Aces and once again we will try to cover as many calls on the A1 list as possible, with some work on "Swap Around", "Cycle & Wheel", " Cast A Shadow" starting from a Promenade. Then if time allows we can try "Chain Reaction" starting from a Left Hand Quarter Tag. That will fill the evening I'm sure.
See you at Aces, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

COOKIE CLUB SUNDAY

Good morning Dancers, and it looks like another beautiful day, sunny and a high of 20 C degrees, here in the Capital City. We may of had a wet spring and summer but the fall has been great so far.

As the title shows today is Cookie Club and we are back at Roy G. Hobbs Community Centre. The parking lot is a little smaller because some of it has been fenced off, but there's lot of room on the street. Today you will be the first, to dance to my brand new Bose L1 Sound System. With the reputation of Bose Sound, I should never hear, "I didn't hear the Call" ha,ha.  The Program for today is to try and cover all the A2 Calls and do a little work on "In Roll Circulate, from 3 &1 Lines", "Trade Circulate, from Waves and 2-faced lines", "Cast a Shadow, from a Promenade, and from Inverted Lines", and "Chain Reaction, starting from a Left Quarter Tag Formation". This program should fill our dance time and if not I'm sure we can come up with something to work on such as "Facing Recycle" or "Peel & Trail".

Also today in Orleans, EOSARDA is holding Fall Fest at St. Mathews High School, 6550 Bilberry Dr. From 2:00 till 4:30 PM. Basic/Mainstream with Brian Crawford and Plus/A1 with Dave Hutchison, Rounds Ph II -IV with Don & Jean Clingin. There will be lots of Square Dancing in Orleans today.

On a sad note, we lost the great Earl Johnston yesterday at the age of 90. Earl was the Caller who taught me to sight call and made a huge impact on our calling career back in the 70's that we still follow today.

Earl F. Johnston, age 90, passed away on October 21, 2017 at Life Path Hospice in Sun City Center, FL.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Marion, 4 sons, 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.  Earl was a world renowned square dance caller.  He was inducted into the New England and the National Square Dance Callers’ Hall of Fame.  He started calling at Rockville High School at the age of 14 and continued with his passion until he retired at 62.  Besides music, his passions were family, friends, telling stories and traveling.  He thought Alaska was the most amazing site he had ever seen.   He and Marion were lifelong residents of Vernon until they relocated to Florida in 1992.  He will be missed.

That's about all I have for today's Blog, I haven't made the Program for tomorrow evening's "Adams Aces" yet, but will start as soon as I post this.
Take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

ADAMS ACES DAY

Good chilly Monday morning to you, wow, did we get rain and wind last night or was that my imagination.

We hope everyone made it home from the Cookie Club before the rain downpour. I think the Ray Friel Complex was good for the Cookie Club and everyone found their way without getting too lost, We give a huge "thank you" to the Dancers who helped us with the equipment, with the setup and tear down, we appreciate the help very much.  The dancing was very good yesterday, especially for being the first time out following the summer layoff, however, that statement does not apply to the Calling which is in need of work.

This evening is Adams Aces, first night back following the Thanksgiving holiday. Tonight I hope to take a serious look at the following Calls. "Transfer The Column" (RH Columns & LH Columns), "Swap Around" (Facing Couples, Normal Lines, 8 Chain Thru, & As Couples), "Cast A Shadow" (ccw facing 2 Faced Lines, cw facing 2 Faced Lines, RH Waves, LH Waves, & Promenade), and if time permits "Cycle & Wheel". This may be too much, but I'll adjust as we go.

That's all I have for today, keep warm today, take care of yourself and each other, and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

COOKIE CLUB DAY, TODAY

Well here we are at Sunday morning, it's raining outside so you can't play golf, rake leaves, work in your garden or drive up the Gatineau to take pictures, but you can go Square Dancing. If you are an A2 dancer you can go to the Ray Friel Recreation Complex on 10th Line in Orleans and dance from 2 until 4 PM this afternoon.

What will we cover if we come?
We will cover as many Calls as possible from the Callerlab "A2" and "A1" list, and maybe a couple off the Basic list, such as "Circulates" and "Trades". Today is the first time this Square Dance Season we have all been together, so there could be a little hesitation in reaction time, for the minds recall department to kick into gear. If you need Directions to get to Ray Friel check out yesterday's Blog or your e-mail basket, there will also be a few copies of the directions, posted on the Roy G. Hobbs Centre's front door, if you need one.

That's all I have for this morning, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

COOKIE CLUB

Good morning, to what looks like a kind of wet weekend ahead of us, and no golf, however there will be (A2) Square Dancing at the Ray Friel Complex in Orleans. Why not at the Roy G. Hobbs Centre? The city is installing a new ramp from the parking lot up to the back door, and it is not yet completed and we can't use the hall. The City has arranged for us to Dance at the Ray Friel Complex  and here is the link to it with a map.  The Ray Friel Com

How to get to Ray Friel: Travel East on the 174, past Jeanne D'Arc Blvd, past Champlain St, and exit at 10th Line Road.
10th Line will take you across St. Joseph Blvd and around a long curve to a dead end and a set of Traffic Lights and a sign showing 10th Line. Turn Left (South) on 10th Line and drive south to the third Traffic light, Turn Left into this Street and you will see Ray Friel Complex on the Left. There is a Metro and a Tim Hortons on the Right, Turn Left towards Ray Friel and park as close to the centre doors of the complex as possible (this is a busy Complex). Enter through the centre doors and turn right, there are a set of stairs and an elevator (not Otis) on your Right, come up to the second floor and we will be on the right.

Sorry I had to run away for a while. Tomorrow I will post the Cookie Club program, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the dance floor.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Good Thanksgiving Morning to you, and goodbye to all the turkeys who will spend some part of the day in an oven, or maybe turkey got cooked yesterday and today he is soup.

The schools are closed today so, of course there will not be any Adams' Aces tonight.

This has been a good week for me to get some things accomplished around the house like, installed leaf-guards on the eavestrough, store the summer junk, accumulated in my Ford and get it ready for winter storage. I even found a little time to sketch out the old guy below.

Well, that's about all I have for today, so, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

ADAMS ACES DAY

Good morning Dancers, this is going to be another beauty day here, with the temperature heading for 20 C and the sun shining, so we should make the best of the day, but save enough energy to get through two hours at Aces this evening.

If you haven't heard already, Retired Caller Bob Cathcart passed last Wednesday at the age of 89. Bob, as we all know was a Master Square Dance Caller and Choreographer, spending more than 55 years behind a microphone and giving Square Dance enjoyment to thousands of Dancers.

The program for Aces tonight is to try and cover all the Calls on the A1 List and emphasize a couple of Call Positionings, which will be "Chain Reaction", "Cast a Shadow", "Square Chain Thru" and "Lock It". This is a tentative program because, we always have to plan for more than we will likely use, but we will get through some of it for sure.

Take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

VILLAGE SQUARE'S DAY

Good morning Dancers, here we go heading into another warm summer's day in autumn, very similar to yesterday with the temperature getting up to around 29/30C with a 40% chance of rain this afternoon. If you played golf yesterday I hope you finished early, man, it was hot at 9:45 AM, when I did. No golf for me today, to much to do.

Village Squares are back at South Fallingbrook Community Centre tonight. Here is tonight's program.
Newer Dancers: Review, "Circle left / Right", "Forward & Back", "Do Sa Do", "Allemande Left", "Arm Turns", "Right & Left Grand", "Right/Left Hand Star", "Ladies Chain", "Right & Left Thru", "Dive Thru", "Pass Thru", "California Twirl", "Grand Square", "Square Thru", "Star Thru", "Roll Away", "Veer Left", "Couples Circulate". New Calls for tonight will be: "Lead Right", "Circle To A Line", "Bend The Line", "Weave The Ring", "Half Sashay".
Those Dancers Learning Mainstream: Review, "Cloverleaf", "Single Hinge", "Centres In", "Spin The Top", "Cast Off 3/4", "Circulates & Split Circulates", "Wheel & Deal vs Ferris Wheel". New Calls for tonight are: "Walk & Dodge", "Slide Thru", "Dixie Style To A Wave". We will likely do the Mainstream first tonight, because some of the newer ones will be late arriving.

Well, that's about all I have for you this morning, stay cool, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

THANK YOU

Good morning and thank you to the Dancers who brought electric fans to Adams Aces last night, your generosity allowed five squares to tolerate the heat while dancing for almost two hours, covering forty of the fifty one Calls on the Callerlab A1 list.

I must say I am enjoying this unusually hot stretch of weather, even if it is a little uncomfortable at times. At this time of the morning it is 17 C and by mid afternoon it could be 31 C, but feel like 39 C with the humidity. If you are planning a golf game I would suggest trying for a very early Tee Time.

The Village Squares Dance again tomorrow evening at the South Fallingbrook Community Centre, because absolutely, no work, has been done on the what could be a new ramp at the Roy G. Hobbs Centre. The excavation looks exactly the same today as it did on the 8th of August, when we arrived back from vacation.

That's all I have for today, stay as cool as you can, but enjoy this fine weather, it is rare. Take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

ADAMS ACES DAY

Good morning to you on this Adams Aces Dance night # 2, and the hot weather is still with us. Isn't this weather something else, hot, hot, hot, and sun, "It Is Almost Jamaica", or almost to hot to play golf. Today will be sunny and 32C and feel like 40C at 3:00 this afternoon, and 25C at 8:00 this evening, we will have fans in the gym tonight, shorter tips, and please wear comfortable clothing, I do not want any heat strokes happening.

The Program for tonight is to try and cover all the "A1 Calls" from a standard or most commonly used positions, much the same as last week, with short reviews where there are difficult spots. We hope to see you all there.

That's about all I have for this old Blog this morning, so stay cool, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

VILLAGE SQUARES DAY

Good beautiful Wednesday morning to you and yes it's Village Squares Day. The last chance to bring someone to the Village Squares so that they can experience to fine art of Square Dancing.Tonight we will be Dancing from 7:30 PM till 9:30 PM at The South Fallingbrook Community Centre at 998 Valin St. in Orleans, because the Roy G. Hobbs Centre is still not open for business.

There is not a whole lot going on that I see, so that means there is not a lot to write about unless we get into health and well being, and I am not going there.
so take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

THE MORNING AFTER

Well now, for the first time back Dancing in almost five months, last night at Aces was excellent, I'd say. No, we didn't cover all fifty Calls on the (A1) List, but we only missed about 12 or so and we did cover a pile of Plus Calls. Therefore I say, good job Dancers. Also a huge Thank You going out to Bob & Marguerite Summers for bringing out his BOSE system for me to try, it truly is great sound.
Considering all the Calls on All the Lists, I see the toughest Call is the "CIRCULATE", "All 8 Circulate", and "Split Circulate", "Box Circulate" I'm not sure why, but most Dancers have issues with them and yet Circulate is such an integral part of almost every Call. If you have a chance, you might want to take a look at them on Tamination just to get them clear in your mind.

Now it's time to get to work on a program for the Village Squares for Wednesday evening. Don't forget this Wednesday we are Dancing at The South Fallingbrook Community Centre, 998 Valin Street, Orleans. Hopefully we'll be back at the Roy G. Hobbs Centre, before too much longer.

That's all I have for today so, take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

ADAMS ACES TONIGHT

What beautiful weather we are having, lots of sun and warmth and heading for a high of 27 C by this afternoon. According to the weather network this will continue well into next weekend, I was kinda hoping it would continue until Christmas.

For everyone using the Roy G. Hobbs Centre (The Village Squares) it appears that some work has been accomplished over the weekend, which is the installation of a scaffolding type walkway over the great hole (moat) at the front door, although it is not operational at this time, it could be very soon, (hope, hope).

Adams Aces starts another season of (A1) Dancing this evening, 8:00 PM at Queen Elizabeth Public School, 689 St. Laurent Blvd. Some will say they can't remember any of the A1 Calls, so, I will work through as many as possible in the two hours, with emphases on the following "Transfer The Column", "Cast A Shadow", "Turn & Deal" and "Horseshoe Turn". As well I would like to use as many Plus Calls as possible, just to keep use all current and up to date incase we wanted to go to a Plus Dance. We hope to see you all at Aces tonight.

That's about all I have for today, so take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

GETTING CLOSER

Good morning all, it is very easy to see Fall is here once the sun starts to set and the temperature drops like a stone, at least that's how it feels to me. Although the days of this past weekend were beautiful, once the sun started to set it was time for the heavier clothing, and turn the furnace on in the trailer. Today is our last free Monday because next Monday Sept. 18th Adams Aces will start up for another season of (A1) dancing. We will start off with keeping everything in standard or most usual position, then gradually work through the list teaching, reviewing and using the extended positions. If you have not Danced at Adams Aces then here is our coordinates.
Adams Aces (A1) Club will start Monday, September 18th at 8:00 PM at Queen Elizabeth Public School, 689 St. Laurent Blvd. We hope to see you there.

The Village Squares held their first open house last Wednesday evening at the Ray Friel Recreation facility, because the City is building a new ramp at the R.G.Hobbs Centre and no one is allowed to use that for a while. This coming Wednesday we will be back at Ray Friel for our second Open House Introduction to Square Dancing.  Your free opportunity to discover if this would be something you would like to participate in.

That's all I have to say for today, so take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you on the Dance Floor.

GOOD MORNING SQUARE DANCERS

Wow! Summer vacation is over and it is Square Dance Season once again, we hope you all have had a wonderful summer, although we had a good deal of rain during June and July here, as well as in other parts of Canada. Hot and dry in the West accompanied with terrible forest fires, wet in many parts of the East with poor crops for the farmers and tornadoes in some areas.

Square Dancing starts at the Village Squares tomorrow evening at 7:30 PM at the Ray Friel Recreation Facility on Tenth Line. Why there? you ask, because The City has decided to install a new Handicapped Ramp at the R.G.Hobbs Centre, and got started at it in August, but have abandoned the project for the past two or three weeks. I guess the LRT has taken priority over the ramp, I know it wasn't anything to do with the condition of the streets in our area as they are as rough as ever.

The Village Squares first Open House starts tomorrow evening September 6th upstairs at the Ray Friel Centre. This is your opportunity to bring any or all of your friends out to try Square Dancing for a couple of hours without obligation.

Adams Aces (A1) Club will start Monday, September 18th at 8:00 PM at Queen Elizabeth Public School, 689 St. Laurent Blvd

The Cookie Club (A2) will start on Sunday October 16, at 2:00 PM hopefully at the R.G.Hobbs Centre.

That's all I have for this morning unless I get something different on the NEWS Wire/Wireless or aka Phone.

Take care of yourself and each other and I'll see you tomorrow evening at the Ray Friel Centre.

VACATION IS COMING TO AN END

Good morning, we hope this blog finds everyone well and healthy, after attending or participating in the 150th Celebrations that have taken place in and around the Capital City.

We have returned from Peep's Pond to Lake Dore where we will spend the long weekend, then head for home on Tuesday. We are not impressed with the weather around the Ottawa Valley since our return, I think you have had and are still getting too much rain.

Now it is time to get back to listening to new Square Dance Music and going through the various Programs in preparation for September's start of our various Clubs.

Take care and I'll see you on th Dance  Floor.
